No Canon SLR camera at PMA 2009
Still, we can't get around the feeling that Canon hasn't shown all of its power. Although the PMA 2009 seems to be the perfect moment for product launches as far as the consumer is concerned; in practice it is usually different. Canon announced earlier this year that the brand does not want to launch a new product line on fixed dates or events, but likes to introduce products throughout the year on a more regular basis. They see the importance of the right product at the right time for the right target group, which should be able to be delivered from stock. Introducing a digital SLR during PMA does not seem the right time, according to Canon even though many may have expected introductions to be made.
New Canon SLR at Photo Imaging Expo
What I can say at this moment, however, is that rumor has it that Canon is planning an introduction at very short notice, and perhaps even during the upcoming Photo Imaging Expo in Tokyo at the end of this month. I won't go into details just yet, but it's worth keeping an eye on Canon for the next period of time. It's surprising that PMA 2009 will make history as an almost 'DSLR-less' event. To be precise, we saw only the Olympus E-620 being introduced just before the PMA started, and make its debut in front of the crowd. Every other brand refrained from introductions or postponed or even cancelled them while awaiting better times, or a more appropriate time.
Canon digital camera assortment : PowerShot and IXUS models
Canon's booth at the PMA 2009 in Las Vegas was filled with new PowerShot and IXUS digital cameras as well as a new line of digital camcorders and some lenses. I find the new Canon PowerShot SX200 IS and the ultra-compact Canon IXUS 100 IS to be the two most interesting ones. Both Canon digital cameras are at the top of my list to get thoroughly tested and reviewed.
